What do you need to follow this guide

To follow these articles and teach your child (or yourself) to become a Carnātic music rasikā, you need:

  • very basic familiarity of Carnātic music yourself: knowing that it exists and having heard of rāgams
    • a basic understanding of Carnātic music yourself helps: perhaps you know a couple or a couple dozen rāgams
    • but even if you don’t, you can learn along with your child or by yourself
  • conviction that the right learning method can easily overcome all perceived barriers to your learning
  • persistence that comes out of this conviction
    • especially important at the very initial stages until your child (or you) “find your groove” in the learning process
